Community Gardens Open House! September 14

A celebration of community gardens and gardeners!

Sunday, September 14
1:00-4:00pm  Community Gardens Open for Visits ( MAP and see list below)
4:00-5:30pm Celebration Event at The People’s Garden

Participants will gather at the People’s Garden on 409 Northwestern Parkway (map) for a post-tour celebration featuring refreshments, educational displays, demonstrations and conversations on gardening and starting a community garden. And bring your biggest home-grown tomato for 15Thousand Farmers’ MondoTomato Contest.

The purpose of this event is to give folks who are growing food or interested in growing food an opportunity to see how other urban gardeners are providing food for their families and friends.
Hosted by the Food in Neighborhoods Community Coalition. Other partners include Louisville Grows, U of K County Extension Service, Metro Louisville Office of Economic Development & 15Thousand Farmers.

Apply now for Fall Internships with Louisville Grows!

Louisville Grows is now accepting applications for an Urban Agriculture Intern, Love Louisville Trees Intern, and Education and Outreach Intern! Internships will start in August and end in December 2013. Urban Agriculture Internship:
Louisville Grows is offering the opportunity to share knowledge on the core fundamentals of urban agriculture and greenhouse propagation. The Urban Agriculture Intern will work primarily at The People’s Garden in Shawnee and at our 1 acre garden plot in Shively. The People’s garden and Shively garden combined produce over 2500 lbs. fresh, organic produce each year for distribution throughout West Louisville. This is a part-time, unpaid internship. We are happy to arrange academic credit with your school in exchange for your work with Louisville Grows.

Love Louisville Trees Internship:
The Love Louisville Trees Intern will assist with implementation of our newly developed neighborhood tree program including site mapping, resident recruitment, evaluation planning, resource gathering and distribution and coordination of planting days. This is a part-time, unpaid internship. We are happy to arrange academic credit with your school in exchange for your work with Louisville Grows.

Education & Outreach Internship:
The Education and Outreach Intern will work with our Community Outreach and Education Coordinator to plan and deliver garden oriented educational programs to children and families, canvass, recruit volunteers, connect with local youth and community groups and assist with our children’s gardens in Portland and Shawnee. This is a part-time, unpaid internship. We are happy to arrange academic credit with your school in exchange for your work with Louisville Grows.

People’s Garden Harvest Festival on Saturday!

This Saturday, October 13th, the People’s Garden will be having their first annual Harvest Festival from 2pm-5pm at the garden (409 Northwestern Parkway, Louisville, KY)!  Come and join us for fresh apple cider, soup, BBQ, children’s garden activities, pumpkin carving, and more!  Contact Valerie with any questions or if you are interested in volunteering during the event at valerie@louisvillegrows.org.
